My most treasured champagne moment...? 

I was travelling alone. Madrid. A city unknown to me. I needed to get out. To be alone, to reconnect with myself. Wandering through the streets, I ran into Hotel Ritz. Way out of my league. Still, I walked in, smiling uncomfortably at the doorman. So much splendour, so lavish.... 

I took a deep breath and decided to sink into one of the large armchairs there. Actually, I wanted to make myself invisible, I didn't belong there. Too sjiek, not me. I looked at the menu. €25 for a glass of champagne. No way! And yes anyway. I decided to order it. And with the glass in my hand, I was proud. Proud of myself. Because in that moment I realised so well where I came from. As a 16-year-old girl on the streets with no money, no home, with school books under my arm from a school I never finished. There in that heavy period, I decided to always make the best of my life. And now.... Now I could pay for it - a €25 glass of champagne at the Ritz. It was a great feeling. Grateful for how my life is.

I don't need to go to the Ritz for that feeling anymore. It's deep inside; always making the best of life.

And of course I like to drink a lovely glass of those happy bubbles. Even when it's not a party. Just like that.

What feeling does champagne give you?
